Organized ThemesParticipantHi,
Yes this should be fine.
Remember to make a back up of files before editing them so you can always revert back.
Always a good idea to use child theme too.

To Answer your questions;
Q. What are the files that I should save a copy of for the theme settings?
A. Keep the wp-content folder as these contains your theme files and any CSS changes you might have made. Also, make a back up of your DB.
Q. Why is the slider not showing? Any idea of how to fix?
A. It is hard to tell until I have had a look at the admin.

You can access these settings on the bottom section of the edit page.
You are looking for the ‘Hero Area Options’. This controls the settings you are looking for.
Let me know if I can be of any more help.

This widget area uses the home page content widget.
Here is how you can create similar;
Navigate to the create new page panel in WordPress.
Create a new page adding the content you want displayed, in this case “TESTIMONIALS: To provide professional, effective and affordable mental health and social services that promote lifelong self-sufficiency and well-being for anyone in need.”
Make sure to align the content center and save the page.
Navigate to widget settings under appearance tab.
Drag the Home Page Blog Content to Home page 5 widget area.
Under the drop down menu, select the new page you just created, save.
This will display the content of that page in the widget area of the home page.
Please let me know if you need any more assistance with this.
