    Hey Bill,

I’m trying to get a previous feature of the Kerygma theme working again. When we first started using the theme the “listen” tab would prompt the embedded audio file to begin playing within the browser. This worked great for many as they did not need to download a podcast to their computer to listen. Over time, I noticed that the “listen” tab no longer worked properly (nor did the download tab)…Instead both buttons would eventually link you to a separate URL which was a player page only. Currently, the “download” button works properly (downloads sermons to my computer) however, the listen tab is still not working. Neither listen within the browser or goes to a separate URL.

Ultimately, I loved the way that the site originally functioned. Listen tab began playing the audio file within the page (no new URL…no download…worked great within the page). There was even a play button underneath each podcast that would prompt playback as well.

How can we get the podcast working this way again? “Download” prompts download and “listen” or the play icon prompts immediate playback within the page.

    Thanks so much,

    Good Morning Parker,

Let’s see what we can do here. I took a look at your site just now. The audio player should be visible on individual podcast episodes, for example http://www.agapebaptist.com/podcast/the-greed-of-gahazi/

It appears that there is a bit of javascript trouble on the page and that’s keeping the player from displaying. There is a library called jQuery that many interactive elements rely on that is not loading for some reason.

Here’s what I would do to troubleshoot.

    1. Disable the W3 Total Cache cache. Turn off the caching in the plugin’s options screen. Check and see if the audio player came back up. If it did, then it could be a setting in this plugin that’s keeping jQuery from loading.
    2. Next disable all plugins.
    3. Check to see if the audio player comes up. If it does, turn the plugins back on, one by one, until the player stops working again. Then we’ll know which plugin is causing the trouble.

If disabling all the plugins doesn’t do it, let me know.

    Take care,
    Bill

    Hey,

It appears to be a plugin called “Autoptimize” I was able to active and deactivate and it seemed to toggled the playback feature on and off….Was there ever a play back button on the Series Page (see link). So this would entail multiple play options on the same page. I can’t remember if that was possible or not.

    Hi Parker,

I’m glad you were able to track down the trouble. The player has only been on the single podcast “pages” and not on the series list. It looks like we walked through how to add it to the series list in this topic https://support.organizedthemes.com/forums/topic/podcast-listen/ . You could do that again if you’d like to add it to the theme.

You can also create a child theme and place the changes there. That way when you update the theme in the future you won’t risk losing your changes. I have some resources on making child themes at https://support.organizedthemes.com/child-themes/ if you’d like to go that route.

Let me know if I can help,
    Bill
