Hero Video and an "un-mute" button

Hey Bill,
I totally understand your reasoning behind the Hero Videos being more of an aesthetic feature than a means to transmit content. However, I would love to see how it would look to have a 2 minute hero video that does give a brief overview of some content. Here at Southeastern, our students are used to having a reporter-feel video in front of them. (Here’s an example: https://vimeo.com/120181486) and I’m looking to replicate that on our site, not on our front page, but on 2 different resource pages. However, it’s really annoying to have sound play through speakers upon arriving on a site. Is it possible to have an “un-mute” button for a hero video? I know it’s a stretch, but if you could make that happen, I think it would work great for us.
Hello Will,
Great question. I believe we can do that. Here’s what to do:
- Go to the Appearance section in your WordPress dashboard and choose Edit.
- From the list of files on your right, choose hero-options.php
- Replace everything in the file with this:
(Be sure to copy that code from the support site and not the notification email).
- Save your changes.
I believe that will add in a mute button to the hero image videos for you. I gave it a quick trial on my computer and that seemed to do the trick. Let me know if you run into trouble.
Have a great week,
Bill
