Can I link to a Menu Group from within a page ? or Is a Menu Group a post or a page?

The content of one of our pages refers to the food served. The navigation menu includes a link to a Menu Group which lists many food items. I know the slug of the Menu Group I wish to link to.

Using the link builder in the create/edit page screen, there is no item for Menu Group in the list of items to choose from. I can easily create a link to an individual food item, but not to the group.

The address bar of the browser does not show an permalink id number for the Menu Group when I navigate to the Menu page. It shows http://www.aaaa.com/?menu-group=menu

When I look at some php code to grab a permalink id, I am not sure if I am looking for a post or a page ? Can you point me in the right direction? Please and thank you.

Great question. Menu groups are actually very similar to post categories. They help organize the menu items like categories do for individual posts.

Unfortunately WordPress often likes to hide them from the navigation builder. You can make them visible though. In your navigation section (Appearance > Menu) click the “screen options” in the top right corner. Make sure the box is checked next to Menu Groups.

That should add a new box on the left hand side of your navigation options for your menu groups. The groups that have menu items will be visible there. You can then add them directly to your navigation just like you would a page or a category.

I do have the Menu Groups included in the navigational menu. This part works great.

The problem I have is linking from the middle of a page using an anchor tag like this
to the same menu group that is in the navigation

Would the following piece of code work?
Is the “Category Name” the same as the “slug” ?
If this is correct, can I place this code into the contents of a Page?

Kais,

Gotcha. To link to one from the inside of a page, you would create a link by highlighting the text you’d like to turn into a link and then clicking the link button. For the URL, use this:

http://yoursite.com/menu/menu-group-slug

That will let you create a link.

The final code to make the link work was

http://yoursite.com/?menu-group=menu

where the slug for the menu-group is menu.

So simple it makes my head hurt – all the pounding against the wall you see.
