Bill,
I’m trying to use the Selfie theme for our church site. I may be stretching the theme too far, but I like the simplicity of the homeblocks. At the same time, I’m not great at this stuff so what I’m looking for may be easier than I imagine.
1.) I need a good way to list the staff and provide contact info. I thought about listing a series of About Me widgets in the sidebar, but I don’t know if I can have more than one gravatar. As an alternative, I have a home block linked to another page where we can list staff, but don’t know how to get text and image next to one another. What’s your recommendation for staff?
2.) What about a calendar of events? I like the option to have it in calendar mode or as a list, but I can’t seem to find a widget. I’m assuming that means it’s a plug-in but I don’t want to pull anything in unless I know for sure. What do you recommend?
Thanks for the help.
Peter

Good questions. Let’s tackle the calendar first. I typically recommend people use The Event Calendar (https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar/). It’s well made and typically works well for most sites. For our church themes, we’ve included a few styling tweaks to the theme to best support the plugin.
You’re welcome to try Selfie as a church theme. For the staff section there’s at least one plugin you could try (https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-staff-list/) that would create a staff directory for you.
A pluginless option would be to create a page for your staff. You would need to insert images for each staff member that are the same size to keep them uniform. Then set them to align to the left. That would cause the other text to wrap around to the right.
Between each staff member you could switch to the text editor from the visual one and add this:
<hr class="clear" />
which will create a line and a bit of separation between staff members. That’s another option.
If you have any questions, just let me know.
Have a great week,

What plug in would you recommend for adding a podcast? I’m linking a Homeblock about worship to descriptions of our different services and, from there, each service will have a link to its own page. I’d like that to be where the podcasts go. I hope that makes sense.
Thanks again.

It’s been a while since I last looked at a podcasting plugin, but I would probably try this one first: https://wordpress.org/plugins/seriously-simple-podcasting/
It looks like a good option.
Have a great evening,
