ParticipantBill,
Thanks again for timely response.
Bit hard to find errors that have now gone – all ok here now also – maybe an internet related problem ??Re the maps – I dont want to use them but as the load error was there I just thought we may be able to remove all references to google maps. However, that error has also gone ??
Will look at references in your para about host services.
So it seems I wasted your time although the error did exist (once). I will test over a greater period in future.
Thanks.

ParticipantThanks Bill,
Interesting that the icon does not work in my browser (safari 6 mac). Will look at this again later if necessary.
I added the css you supplied – the result of which showed the link text which now does work as a link. Actually this may suit the client so will leave for now.
I downloaded the plugin and may use an image later.
Thanks for info re video – it is what I thought so will add ending image in video.
Thanks again for your excellent support.

ParticipantBill,
And there I was during a panic moment where I had a fleeting doubt about the template – I ought to have known better. To my amazement, that worked fine and I could even deactivate the events calendar. I don’t pretend to understand why. It seems the wordpress gang have an issue to look at. I have settled on the default setting for now.
Still not sure about what “current” and “recent” series mean but its doing what I require at the moment.
Again, you have provided top notch support – thanks.

ParticipantBill,
Spoke too soon.
It has failed again. this time I simply get a browser message
“The requested URL /~paulspiller/wordpress_base/series/singing/ was not found on this server.”
The home page is fine but when I click on the series link (image) that is all I get. I note that the “index.php” is now missing ???It seems a bit fragile.
I also note that there is now numerous “news” items from “Modern Tribe” (The Events Calendar owners) I dont want any plugin calling home at all unless it is under my control. Whether this is related I do not know. I dont want the events calendar at all and wish to remove this from the equation.
The template looks very promising and I would be reluctant to use another (I have a few of yours which have been very reliable). May not be the template of course.

ParticipantBill,
On further investigation, I have found the cause if not the reason..
As I tend to deactivate all unused plugins by habit, I cleaned up and deactivated “The Events calendar” before testing today. I tried to go back to where it all worked again, activated “The Events calendar”, and it all worked. It all gets a bit messy when one seemingly unrelated plugin affects other things but I guess there are functions being shared (maybe).
It would be nice to tidy this up and understand what happened but anyway – its all good again. Hopefully this may help someone who falls into the same trap.
Can you give me a brief on what “current” and “recent” series (or podcasts) mean and what affect this may have down the track.
Thanks in advance Paul

ParticipantBill,
I admire you excellent support – a rare thing these days.I found I had to remove the “.home” – it then worked fine (Just playing about there).
It also worked if I replaced the “.home #sidebar” with “#mobile-header”It is nice to be able to tweak the css to tailor the site to taste. I use it quite a bit.
Thanks.

Just to check you did what I did :-
IE11 problems
Ie11 caused the price figures not to display on the product page and cart.
Seems IE11 stuffed up AJAX ???A fix for now is to add this line to themes > header.php….
<meta http-equiv=”X-UA-Compatible” content=”IE=9,chrome=1″> (line 22)
at the start of the header page before any css
Tested ok 26 oct 2014
In the site HTML this results in:-
<head>
<title>Home | Medi Cooler</title>
<meta charset=”UTF-8″ />
<meta http-equiv=”X-UA-Compatible” content=”IE=9,chrome=1″>
<!–Load WP Head–>
and so on.
If tat does not fix yours, I might reverse it here and see what happens – things may have changed.

ParticipantThis rings a bell with a problem I has with IE customers. It may not be directly related to your problem but may be worth a try. It is a fix published by someone else…maybe this particular problem has been addressed already..
“Apparently microsoft IE 10 & 11 breaks ajax so I had to emulate IE 9. Place this in the head section of header.php of the theme.
<meta http-equiv=”X-UA-Compatible” content=”IE=EmulateIE9″ >Easily reversed if it does not help.

ParticipantBill,
As usual, your support is excellent. Thanks for that.
I watch your forums for the themes I am interested in – Umami looks like another great one for an upcoming client. I dont know how you can respond to all the varied and sometimes tricky questions in such a timely and professional manner – but you do – and well (dont you sleep ?)Well done.

ParticipantBill,
I restored all css changes to no avail.
But, as you say, there was one difference between the two sites – I had installed a plugin “woocommerce Menu Cart”. I deactivated that and Voila! it all worked again and IE8 was happy.
I know it is supposed to be a first in fault finding check – removing plugins – but “a little plugin like that” ?
I learnt an important lesson. I wonder how many others are having the same problem .
Anyway, thanks again for your moral support. Response from “the guru” always helps.
ps – your Elite template supports woocommerce well and is easy to tailor – my site ended up nothing like your demo.

ParticipantThanks Bill,
While I swap things about, attached is an error message that may give you a clue.

ParticipantHi Bill,
I almost dont believe this but I may have “overcome” the problem – not really found the cause.
Following some research on sitemaps, on a whim, I went to settings > wordpress address url and site address url and changed both to http://designshack.com.au/demo3.
(they were both http://demo3.designshack.com.au – I assume that was set during installation somehow). I now note that going to another menu item page keeps the “http://designshack.com.au/demo3/…..” format instead of “http://demo3.designshack.com.au/….” as it did.I dont understand why this changes things with IE8 only but I can only assume that some php function is changing things.
I certainly hope you are right about IE8 usage – many website developers will rejoice when it is “gone”.
Problem is that in Australia, there are many people who do not update and stick with old versions of everything until it does not work at all. I think many are simply frightened that if they update, things will go wrong (as they do) or that they will have to learn something very different (as they often do). That 4% I dont think is true here.
Will let you know if the problem somehow resurfaces and proves me wrong.

ParticipantThanks Bill,
It is a mystery. I test IE on mac bootcamp but I did find the same problem on another PC. I did notice the same problem with your demo on one test but I cannot reproduce it which makes me think (clutching at straws) of a timing related thing.
Anyway if and when I find the problem, or a workaround, I will post here for the benefit of others who may have come across the same issue.

ParticipantThanks again Bill,
Lets take a reset here. I am my own worst enemy. I modified the css too much – all worked fine on safari but good old IE8 had conniptions. After restoring back to normal these problems went away.
However I am still wanting to modify the css somewhat (more carefully) and will contact you if I run into something I cannot resolve. As I say, I modify and all works well in everything except IE8 – keeps one on their toes but sometimes this way lays madness.Paul

ParticipantBill,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I had the updates turned off and so I think I have an older version as those lines are not in scripts.php.However, it may have worked out fine as you found a problem that needed attention.
I think I also found my problem – for some reason IE8 was in “compatibility view” mode. When I turned that off those problems went away (why they would force a browser to work like an older one that has many problems with sites is beyond me).
I have modified the template css (to suit a clients requirements) such that responsiveness is gone such that I removed most of the responsiveness section of style.css (as per one of your posts) but left the code there that it would have used for a particular size screen – in effect setting a fixed layout.
This works fine in safari, firefox, chrome but IE actually crashes when I go the the shop page. Just mentioned it as you may be able to give me a clue – I am going to look further before requesting help.
I would understand if you are reluctant to help with modified code.
Thanks Paul
