    Little more info

Get the following debug message in my ‘child theme configurator’ window, it says share this with theme author – maybe a cause of incorrect icons displaying?

Notice:Β  Array to string conversion in /var/sites/w/watfordwebsitedesign.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/themes/elite/includes/fonts.php on line 188

Been using this child theme configurator along with the Elite theme fine up until recently…

This moved on to be a problem displaying characters that are either bullets on post lists or the icons on widgets, etc. See example website http://www.watfordwebsitedesign.co.uk

See issue in the scroll down prompt at bottom of hero area (no arrow showing), in the call now and click here widget areas on home page, etc. (icons not displaying correctly)

This is something not seen before on using the Elite theme – anything we can do to make these icons/bullets display properly? Running a child theme and the issue seems to occur after updating bits and pieces after moving a site.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Not sure if I have wrong thing, but the TinyMCE widget visual editor is PRETTY LIMITED. Not even a way of simply having content in three columns within a Home widget area.

Want to display three click through images/text, just like your theme allows with ‘featured page widgets’, but to put all text below the images, not some above. Am I missing something obvious within the TinyMCE visual editor?

Do I put three instances of ‘TinyMCE visual editor’ widgets into one home area, but how to get them alongside each other…?
    OR
Do I put three images alongside each other inside the one visual editor widget, but how to arrange so they use the width of the elite themes home area…?

Guidance appreciated, but understand you are not TinyMCE.

Retracting the last query, as realized categories only given to images via another plugin. Looking like I may need a more comprehensive gallery/lightbox plugin. Any suggestions?

    Also and add on question…

Can the gallery display have a filter applied, to display the images by say ‘category’.

The gallery is displaying artwork and would be good to be able to filter the display in some way, if categories set for each artwork type, using that filter.

Or is this a third party plugin, something to cover the text inclusion and filter options perhaps…

Bummer, my long answer disappeared before I could submit it!!!

    Here is an abbreviated version:

    Site draft at http://www.printshopharrow.co.uk

Have an edit in the Child Theme CSS panel (h1.page-title { font-size: 20px; })
to change the title texts to smaller

This is not picked up by theme.
Is set to enqueue both child and parent css.

If I put edit into the Elite Custom CSS – edit works, but not when done via the child theme control panel.

This plugin and theme worked well together in past, so not sure what has changed, still looking at plugin in case something that end.

You are bound to spot something I need to fix, so appreciate your view on this. πŸ™‚

Forgot to say I do have stylesheet handling set to ‘Enqueue both parent and child stylesheets’.

It is the fact that all worked well in past, but on recent site build seemed to be a bit of a glitch! πŸ™

    Hi Bill,

Is there an option/way to turn off display of both the ‘Header Logo’ and ‘Header Text’, so neither show on any pages?

Suppose could get rid of blog title, which I think is used for ‘Text’, but don’t want to adversely affect search terms, etc., which I assume this would do.

Perhaps something to add in to Elite in future, option for Logo/Text/Nothing in the header area…

    Thanks in advance.

Bill, well done, you’ve done it! That seems to stop the extra space appearing under footer when window is resized. Will keep an eye on and test on other devices. But looks better.

    Thank you very much.

Thanks as usual Bill. I put a copy of the custom-js.php file in my child theme includes and edited that (not sure if needed), so hope that will avoid losing code change, if update to theme in future. The hero resizing seems to work in a fashion, but not sure all devices and screens looking their best. Will do some more testing.
For info – The footer does have added space at bottom, but your code (#hero-section) snippet does not resolve that.

    Hi Bill,

Many thanks for the latest Elite theme update – resolved the issue raised yesterday about display of hero slides, being a bit wacky. Great news!

Noticed another issue, which comes under same Hero Slider heading, so kept in this topic.

This was raised by someone else in Elite forum, in Oct2014…
The Hero image not adjusting ‘properly’ in different window sizes. If I have the site open in a not-maximized window, the Hero image fills the window ok. Then if I maximize or shrink it, it won’t display properly until I refresh the page. Same when viewing on different mobile devices and screens. Is there a way that the Hero slider can be set to respond to the window size automatically?

Think you identified and fixed in an update at the time (Oct2014), but seeing the issue now with our site, so has something reverted in subsequent updates, or is there something more to be done? (sorry for the headache!)

    Thanks in advance.

(on the search issue – I meant within each themes forum, so able to search say the ‘Elite’ forum queries for solutions or mathcing problems, rather than ask you what might be a repetitive query.) Might not be possible or save you any time. Just always concerned about just asking something you have already solved for someone else.

Anything to do with screen size settings>>> when you shrink or stretch the browser window size it show more of the slide image, but still at small window size, it has a large blank area below, between slide and home1 section… thought it might give you a lead…
It is like it just is not showing full slide image, oh and seems to be shifting it up the window to incorrect position…!

Go on tell me something really obvious… πŸ™‚

Thanks in advance for your attention…

Well that is weird! I clear my cache and history, I close browser and restart, still the slides only show in band at top of screen, behind the menu nav area. See screen garb attached.

Tried on PC and MAC and different browsers, so assume something not set correctly. I have removed slides and replaced and tried refreshing and saving just about all settings, can you see anything obvious I am missing?

Odd how the image of the slide does not show at all, if I do not enter text into the Hero Title or Caption fields – whats that about..?

    Paul

( another site using Elite Theme shows a similar problem where the slide ‘sometimes’ overlaps and covers the home1 section texts.)

The gallery option just doesn’t show up in WordPress admin unless you use the ‘add media’ button route… THANKS AGAIN

    Realized that might be confusing.

I see where you can turn off the integrated lightbox function (content – in theme options), but if I want to use the theme functionality, how do you go about have several images in a gallery, that then shows within a lightbox pop up, with next options, etc, so someone can review a batch of image on a page.

That might be clearer (or not!)

I think we are getting there – this now does what is needed with the header block, but affects the menu drop down. It is pushed down out of reach from the main menu, if you try to reach it, it disappears before you can get mouse over!
    Screen shot attached.
Any ideas or have I worn you out on a Friday! Thanks

Sorry had my 3D head on!

The height seems to adjust down to approx half height when I use your latest code snippet… width adjusts and looks great, but the height shrinks too! which is not good. Screen snap attached to show reduced opacity area with new CSS code.

    Hope that is clearer.

    Hi,

Sounds like a great fix and it does resize the width either end as you would hope, but this code makes the ‘depth’ of the header opaque bar reduce, want to keep same depth if possible… sure this is simple, but your coded snippets are invaluable in getting it right. Thanks in advance.

Nope – afraid not quite there with this one!

This code doesn’t seem to affect in anyway??

Attached screen shot with markers for what we want to achieve, just the opaque panel behind logo and menu to be adjusted to less than full width of page, but still behind logo and menu…any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.
