Hi Bill,

Our feed is working…most of the way. I ran the feed through a feed validator, and it’s pointing out that we need to be able to tell iTunes we are not Explicit, and it’s looking for a duration on the mp3.

Our feed url is incorrect above. Of course, the one straight from our site is http://www.columbiaheights.org/podcast-feed/ but the feedburner address that we are sending to iTunes is http://feeds.feedburner.com/ColumbiaHeightsAssemblyPodcast. I was missing the “Podcast” at the end.

Hi Bill,

I installed the Epic v 1.1.5 theme. I like the sermon player update. Looks like it fixed the coloring issue on Firefox.

Problem is, my homepage slider disappeared. I’m going to switch back to v. 1.0.0 for the time being. Any thoughts?

The home page is still set to display latest posts.

I haven’t changed anything with the home page settings under Theme Options. They are as follows

Thanks for helping us get this squared away!

First and quickly, I do not see a box for the length of the mp3 in our Add Podcast screen.

Second, I replaced all the text in the Custom Feed Page Template (podcast-feed-page.php) file with the code in the link. Nothing different…yet. I tested it by going to iTunes.

I might be doing it wrong…

Here’s the address I’m using:

When I go to that address in Chrome, I get prompted to download a file named “download” of an unspecified type.

When I paste that link into Firefox, I get this message with the option to subscribe.

This is a “feed” of frequently changing content on this site.
You can subscribe to this feed to receive updates when this content changes

I’m following the directions from iTunes, but maybe I’m missing a step. http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#testing

Testing Your Feed.
When you have created your RSS feed and posted it to a server with a publicly addressable URL (i.e., not behind a firewall), you should test your feed to see if it works with iTunes:

Launch iTunes.
In the Advanced menu, select Subscribe to Podcast.
Enter your feed URL in the text box and click OK.

When I try pasting this address as a new Feedburner feed, I get this message:

The URL does not appear to reference a valid XML file. We encountered the following problem: Error on line 31: The entity name must immediately follow the ‘&’ in the entity reference.

The feed your site already creates needs to be “valid enough” to work with FeedBurner. This post from the FeedBurner Help Center explains why technical validity matters.

Are you using the URL of the web page or the URL of the feed?

FeedBurner is usually able to “auto-discover” your feed from a web page, but in this case we didn’t find any related feeds. You may want to enter the URL of the feed directly.

Is the URL is misspelled or a copy+paste action didn’t work?

If that’s the case, please try again.

When I confirm the validity, I got this message…maybe it’s on to something?

I’m still having trouble with my feed. Right now, it would be simpler for me to delete our old feed on iTunes and submit a new one with the new address.

I updated my Feedburner settings to point to the podcast feed page I created using the instructions earlier in this thread. That takes me here: http://columbiaheights.ipower.com/podcast-feed/

I’m running into these problems:
1. When I click on my Feedburner feed address, (http://feeds.feedburner.com/ColumbiaHeightsAssembly) I get an error message.
2. When I enter the podcast feed url directly into iTunes using their directions, I can’t download any episodes. They just don’t show up.

What am I missing?

I had the same issue. The solution for me was to call my web host. They upped the file upload size limit to 100 MB. Then I use Filezilla to upload the files via FTP. Then I can grab the link and edit the podcast info.

Never mind! I found it in the Appearance Editor. I adjusted the percentage on the max-width from 99% to whatever looked right to me. Thanks anyway!

Hi Bill!

Yes! You’re right. As a matter of fact, there was some custom excerpted text in the excerpt box for Kent and Pam Doehne. I removed that text and it eliminated the problem of text going onto the pictures on the staff landing page. : )

The good news:
When I enter the full text in the bio section (not the excerpt – I’m leaving that blank), it does not run off the bottom of the white box.

The bad news:
The text seems to get cut off and hidden when the box ends. The box is not growing to accommodate the text, just cutting off the text.

So is it possible to make the white box grow to accommodate the text? It would be nice if it did. Otherwise, I can just truncate the bios, which would be a bit of a bummer, but would be better than text running off the bottom of the box.

Hi Bill,

The problem may not have manifested for you because I shortened the length of the staff bios to fit within the white box. Before I did that, the text was running off the bottom of the box onto the background of the webpage.

I’m using Google Chrome, 21.0.1180.60 m ? version – the most updated version.

Ok, so I pasted that code into the custom CSS box on the Theme Options > Styling tab. To test it to see if it worked, I added more text to an individual staff page. http://columbiaheights.ipower.com/staff/pastor-kent-pam-doehne/

Looks great. Only problem is, it only shows an excerpt of the bio, not the whole thing.

When I back up to the staff landing page, it has formatting errors again. See http://columbiaheights.ipower.com/staff-group/pastors/

This was fixed when I changed the excerpt length as you previously helped me do, but now it’s broken again.

If I need to, I can just keep the pastors’ bios brief enough to fit in the box, but is there a way to make it all work?

Hi Bill,

The staff landing page looks great. I changed the length of the excerpt to be shorter, as you advised.

I am running into problems on the individual staff member’s page. Their text is running off the bottom of the white box onto the background of the page. See: http://columbiaheights.ipower.com/staff/paul-tammy-hansen/

Is there a way to adjust this so that the white box on everyone’s individual staff page automatically grows or shrinks to accommodate the text?

Thanks for explaining. I’ve changed my Reading settings so that it displays the latest posts. I’ve also added the “Home” link in the Menu. I’ve created a couple slides, too. Still nothing.

I must have done something to mess it up. Any advice?
