Is there a certain size my logo/header graphic should be?
I’m just curious because I uploaded a 300×168 image, but for whatever reason it isn’t displaying. The current format is a .png if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance for your assistance
October 21, 2011 at 10:16 #3918Bill RobbinsModeratorVertically there is around 100 pixels of space available to use for the logo, but it can be adjusted if you need to. If you need a bit more space, send me a link to where you’re working on it and I’ll send you some adjustments to make it fit neatly.
October 21, 2011 at 12:37 #3921Chris LangilleParticipantThat would be great Bill if you could help with that.
The logo I’d like to use is roughly 300×168. I could probably go smaller than that, but I’d like to see what this size looks like first.
I’m also contemplating altering the logo to horizontal text so I don’t have to alter code, but that’s my step of last resort.
THanks Bill
October 21, 2011 at 12:53 #3922Chris LangilleParticipantOops sorry the site is http://www.seniorcareministries.org
October 21, 2011 at 15:35 #3925Bill RobbinsModeratorThanks Chris. It looks like the permissions on your logo (in Amazon’s CloudFront) aren’t set to be viewable by the “world.” When I tried to pull up the URL for your logo (http://d371cx67i5300x.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/upfw/scm-logo.png) I received an access denied error.
You can use the Amazon Web Services control panel to change who can view the files. See if that doesn’t let your logo be viewable.
Let me know if you have any trouble. Also let me know when you get the logo up and I’ll send you the styles to make it fit nicely.
October 21, 2011 at 18:55 #3926Chris LangilleParticipantHmmm this is odd. I changed the permissions on my s3 bucket to “everyone”, and also made the wp-content folder public.
It still didn’t show.
I then changed the size of the logo to 156×85 (keeping the s3 settings on “public”) to see if perhaps it was just too big for that area/container, but still nothing.
I also cleared cache, and logged out, and refreshed, and still no dice.
Thoughts?
It doesn’t matter that I’m using a .png and not a .jpg right?
October 21, 2011 at 21:07 #3932Bill RobbinsModeratorYou can use either format. With CloudFront, sometimes changes take a bit of time to populate throughout their network.
Which you might do is turn of W3 Total Cache until you have everything set up like you like it and then switch it back on. If you can’t see your logo with the plugin off, let me know.
It’s a great plugin and I use it on all my sites, so keep on with it. It just generally works best once you’re site is up for good.
October 21, 2011 at 21:11 #3933Chris LangilleParticipantBill you’re a genius man. I turned off W3TC and wouldn’t you know the logo appeared.
I guess I’ll leave it off until I have everything configured properly.
Thanks again for your help 🙂
October 21, 2011 at 21:20 #3935Chris LangilleParticipantNow that we have this figured out, I forgot to ask you how I go about getting the logo to be more than 100px high
October 23, 2011 at 17:54 #3957Chris LangilleParticipantI figured out why the logo isn’t showing when W3TC is deployed.
For whatever reason, the “upfw” folder that the logo is uploaded to via the “Identity” menu within the theme options, is not uploading to my Amazon s3 bucket. When W3TC is on, I get this error when I open the image in a new tab: NoSuchKeyThe specified key does not exist.wp-content/uploads/upfw/scm-logo.pngC3B9F0ECE0002677/0jLzGiFyH/9Ii4rmcMUVxryOFQZy3/ybAWlEjrSz49EWAZgBtUzWnPMnZA6Thd/
When I upload all the files through the CDN menu within the W3TC settings, for some reason it’s not pushing that folder to the s3 bucket.
I went ahead and just manually created that folder with the correct file path, in my s3 bucket, and then uploaded the logo along with the favicon, and they still aren’t showing when W3TC is on, and I’m getting the same error as mentioned above.
Thoughts? Is there a work around for this? Thanks Bill
October 24, 2011 at 10:06 #3960Chris LangilleParticipantOnce again I seem to have spoken to soon.
My apologies. I found that you can add custom files to be uploaded from within the CDN settings in W3TC, and I have since uploaded the folder that contained the logo to my CDN, and everything is working fine.
October 24, 2011 at 11:10 #3964Bill RobbinsModeratorI’m glad you were able to get it worked out. Sometimes W3 Total Cache doesn’t play nicely with plugins that upload media (the theme options page functions basically like a plugin). I had the same trouble with a local avatars plugin that I love, but just couldn’t get to play work with the CDN part of W3.
