Turning off comments on posts

Hi Bill,

I see where to disable comments for all posts, but I don’t see where to disable comments at the individual post level. Am I missing something?

Hello Michael,

Great question. You can turn them off on each post, but that’s tedious and easy to miss one. There is a plugin called Disable Comments which will let you turn them off everywhere on your site. I’ve had a number of users indicate that it works well for them.

Hi Bill, actually I’d like to (in general) keep them on for all, but turn them off selectively on occasion. But I don’t see that option within the Post edit page, can’t find it anywhere for that matter. Where/How can I turn it off just for an individual post?

Sorry about that. You can turn them off one by one, but WordPress has hidden that option to keep things “clean.” Here’s how to turn off comments for a post.

1. Edit the post.
2. Click the screen options tab in the top right hand corner.
3. Check the boxes next to discussion and comments.
4. In the Discussion box that’s added, you’ll now have two checkboxes you can unselect and turn off comments and trackbacks for that post.
5. Update your post.
