Here’s a way around what you’re encountering. Go to the theme options page and select the “Identity” tab. Scroll down to the “Include Built-in SEO” option and select “no.” The go to plugins and select “Add New.” Search for “WordPress SEO by Yoast” and install it.
The plugin will now handle the page titles (what appears at the top of the browser) and also the descriptions (what appears below the page title in search engine results).
What essentially is happening is the plugin is altering a WordPress function that the theme uses to create page descriptions for search engines.
