    Is there a way to rotate the background images not like a slide show, but rather upon refresh or returning to the home page?

    In other words, I land on the home page and see image 1, which stays as long as I am on that page, but when I navigate to another page I see background image 2 and when I go back to Home I see image 3 and so on.

    You can do that. On the theme options page, go to the background tab and select “no” under “Enable Slideshow.” Choose “Yes” for random image. Then upload your images for slides 1 to 5. When you refresh or visit a new page, it will display a non-rotating, static image.

    Since it is pulling a random image from 5, it will sometimes put the same image in 2 times in a row.
