    Hi!

I have subscribed to our podcast feed page using Google Reader. I have also subscribed on an Android phone with the Podkicker app. In both cases, the description of the episode does not show up, although the audio is there. The address I used to subscribe is http://www.harbourfellowship.com/podcast-feed

Maybe noteworthy: something strange happens if I I subscribe to another URL using Google Reader :http://www.harbourfellowship.com/podcast
In that case, Google Reader shows a listing of all existing non-podcast posts.

    Thanks!

    Shane,

I’ll be honest, the feed page is made primarily to work with iTunes following their podcasting specs. The only aspect I had tested beyond that was to see if the file came through in my Google Reader account.

I’ve been working on our next church theme and part of that is an upgrade to the podcasting options in all of them. I’ll take a look and see if it’s possible to have the description show up there as well.

For the http://www.harbourfellowship.com/podcast, since that’s an actual page on your site, Google Reader is probably pulling the subscription feed address from that page’s header which is the one for your recent posts. That’s a default one that’s listed on every page/post of your site except the podcast feed page template.

    Thanks again,
    Bill

    Thanks, Bill!

My main problem was that iTunes was rejecting our feed. I mistakenly thought that testing the feed in Google Reader would help me find the reason iTunes does not accept the feed. I’ll test the iTunes submission again; I have not tried it since updating the theme.

    Shane,

If you do run into any trouble with iTunes, there’s a feed validator for podcasts at http://feedvalidator.org. It’s been quite helpful to me in tracing rejection errors.

    Thanks,
    Bill
