Hello James,
You can set the default menu colors in the customizer. Go to the Appearance section in your dashboard and click on Customize. Click on Navigation and you can change the default styles of your navigation menu.
On any page that has a hero section, you can change the colors at the top. That way if your hero image/video has a background that’s the same color as your default menu colors, they can still be seen.
The options to change those are in the hero box when you’re editing a page; down below the fields for the hero title and caption.
