Hi Bill getting a lot of customers telling me they are getting a Java Script and Cookie error at checkout. I am not able to simulate the error. We are getting orders but also getting and unusually high amount of uncompleted orders in the pending phase. I am assuming do the to Java or cookies issue.

Here is an example email from a customer:

“I tried ordering from your site, but I’m getting a message to update my java script and allow cookies and won’t allow me to progress through to ordering – these things are on and up to date so is there another way to order?”

    Any ideas here?

Thanks and you help is appreciated! tony

    Hi Tony,

You might try disabling the page animations in the Advanced section of the customizer and see if that clears it up. If that doesn’t do it, I would try to collect a bit more information from them like the browser, browser version and operating system that they are using. That would help out quite a bit in troubleshooting.

    Take care,
    Bill

Hi Bill I disabled page animations 4 days ago but still having this issue. I did talk with one customer she said she was using Firefox and it would not take here to paypal. The she tried IE and it would not let here put more than one item in cart. Mostly i am hearing about the Javascript and Cookies error. I have only discussed with a few customers as most will not respond to my inquiries but currently we are loosing about 30% of orders through the checkout process. This is very high for us. If everything is working correctly we only loose about 1 out of 15. Any ideas as to how i can troubleshoot?

    Thanks, Tony

Troubleshooting can be tedious. Looking at the site now, no javascript errors are coming up so that’s a good thing and a positive step. Cookies are set with javascript so ensuring no error there is a good thing.

The next thing to try would be disabling some plugins temporarily to see if they have an impact. It’s possible some of the plugins use cookies and that may be interfering with WooCommerce, but not in a way that creates a javascript error. The fastest and best way to see if that’s it would be to disable everything but WooCommerce for a short time and see if it has an impact. Then turn plugins back on, one by one to see what happens.

I would look at the one that creates the pop up. If it has any “memory” of what your visitors do so it doesn’t appear on every page, then that could be the trouble.

I also noticed the Recipe Card plugin is loading fonts using http and not https which is giving a security error. It looks like the plugin has been abandoned. If you like the plugin, you could edit it. The yumprint-recipe.php file on line 1261 appears to be the one causing the trouble. Change the http there to https and that should fix that.

Let me know what you turn up,
    Bill
