installed demo doesnt look like example homepage

hi – serious disclaimer that I am new to this and have very little WP experience…
I installed the demo and instead of starting at the homepage shown in the example (woman in front of wood pile) it seems to start out with the Blog section and no menu showing in the top right corner. Any quick suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your business first of all. Welcome to WordPress too.
It sounds like you need to select your home page. To do that, go to the Settings section in your control panel and select reading. At the top there choose to have your front page display a static page and then choose your home page from the drop down there. You can also specify a “posts” page for your blog too. Then save your changes.
That should get things pointed in the right direction. The content for your home page will come from widgets which you can choose by going to Appearance and selecting Widgets.
