How to add menu items

Hi Bill,

How do I add menu items to the menu? I originally made a page for each menu category. Was that right or no?

I would like to see like this:

Home
Menu
Appetizers (is this a page?)
Nachos (is this a page?)
Soups and Salads
Tortilla Soup (user clicks on this and the menu items appear)

etc etc…

Great question. Those are actually best handled by having a menu group for each of them. When adding your menu items, create a “menu group” for appetizers, nachos, soups and salads and so on.

Then on the navigation builder (Appearance>Menu) click on the tab in the top right for screen options. Then make sure that the box next to “Menu Group” is checked. Then you can add the menu groups to your navigation.

Think of a menu group as like a category for your food items. They work like categories do for posts.

If you need to have some introductory text, then you can add a description for each group that will be displayed above the menu list.

Hi Bill,
I’m having issues with getting my menu to look the same way as yours in the demo.

So I currently have 4 menus, one is
http://cafeshenkin.com.au/menu/breakfast/

Also if I set a sub menu e.g. I’ve set up one called “Shakshuka” under “Breakfast” it doesn’t seem to do anything. Is this the right way to do it?

Finally, I notice if I assign a menu item to a parent it doesn’t seem to do anything. Same with setting order number. It just seems to assign by the date I entered in the info which means I have to add in the menu items in the order I want backwards. Am I doing something wrong?
