Bill,
I installed Umami locally using Desktop Server https://serverpress.com/ .
Immediately after installing Umami, creating Child Theme, then tried to import .xml demo content into Child Theme, as you can see from attached screenshot, import completely failed. I followed directions from Sample Data page:
Any suggestions?
Jim

June 17, 2015 at 07:39 #30740Bill RobbinsModeratorHey Jim,
Sorry for the trouble there. Here’s what I would suggest doing.
- Before attempting to install the sample data, go to Appearance in your WordPress dashboard and click on Theme Options. Even if you don’t change anything there, scroll to the bottom and save them. That will push a few defaults to the database which will let things like the food, services and staff be available for importing.
- Install and activate WooCommerce. That will allow the products to be included in the import. There will still be a few items related to WooCommerce that will show up as not imported because WooCommerce changed the way order status were handled after the import file was created. It won’t affect anything, but you’ll still see the message.
- Try importing again.
See how that goes,

Thanks. I can see not installing WooCommerce first was a big mistake.
As far as Theme Options, it is not available under : Appearance .I can easily wipe this install and start from scratch .
June 17, 2015 at 08:09 #30744Bill RobbinsModeratorNot having theme options will definitely make things next to impossible. Try activating the parent theme directly instead of the child theme and see if you can find it then. Let me know how that goes.

I wiped, recreated local site. Installed Umami.
No Child Theme created yet.
Theme Options now available. Imported: umami-options.txt , Saved.
Installed WooCommerce, Activated.
Imported: umami.xml <<this time imported without errors.
Set Reading, menus, looks correct.Thanks. I’ll try to replicate with Child Theme next.

June 17, 2015 at 09:16 #30756Jim GavioliParticipantUpdate: Installed One-Click Child Theme plugin. Activated, Child Theme inherited everything except navigation menu settings.. I had to reassign:
Site Navigation=Umami
Social Icons=SocialI now see no difference between Parent and Child themes in appearance and functionality.
Hope this might help someone in the future.Jim
