I’m struggling to figure out how to create a food menu or services list. Please could you walk me through step by step?

    Many thanks

    Hi James,

Great question. Both food and services work in the same way so for this walkthrough we’re going to use food to keep things straight.

    1. In your WordPress dashboard look on the left hand side for the food section and click on it. This will open up the list of all published food items on your site.
    2. At the top of this screen there is a button you can use to add a new food item. Click on it.
    3. This will open up the add new food item screen. It’s basically like adding a post to your blog if you’ve done that before. The title at the top is the name of your food item. The excerpt box is for the description of the item. On the right hand side you’ll see a blank for the price.

You’ll also notice on the right a box for the menu group. The menu is organized into menu groups. You can create a new menu group from this box or add the food item to an existing menu here.

The main thing there is you’ll want to add menu items that you’d like to display together to the same menu group. You could have a group for appetizers, one for salads, one for entrees and so on.

Once you’ve added the appropriate information, publish your food item.

    4. Create the other food items you’ll need on your site.
    5. Next go to the Appearance section in your WordPress dashboard and click on Menus. On your left you’ll see a section for menu groups. If you don’t see it there, click on the screen options tab in the top right and make sure the box next to menu groups is checked.

Now you can add your menu groups to your navigation menu. This will create a “page” for all the items in that menu group. Add your groups to your menu and then save your menu.

That should add “pages” to your site for your menu. There is another way of creating a page that has multiple menu groups on it. It uses “shortcodes” to insert the menu groups. You can read about it in the theme documentation at https://support.organizedthemes.com/foxy/

If you have any questions, let me know.

    Thanks,
    Bill
