    Is there anyway to change the homepage to a static page with a slideshow rather than a blog post? Something like “Visual” or “Progress” homepages.

    You can do that. First create a page you’d like to use as your site’s front page. Then go to the Settings section of your WordPress control panel and select “Reading.” Select to have your front page display a static page and then choose your new home page from the drop down (you can also assign a page to serve as your blog if you’d like to).

    That will cause this page to be displayed as your home page instead of your latest posts.

    For a slider you might try Responsive Slider or WP Cycle. The only one I’ve used is WP-Cycle, and while it works, it isn’t responsive.

    Both of them let you use a shortcode to display your slider. You can just add that to the content on your new home page and the slider should display.
