Safest way to upgrade theme

I think I’m going to go ahead and try out the 1.2.0 beta version for Authentic. How should I go about upgrading the theme without risking losing things like settings, etc.?
Thanks!
Scott,
Great question. We should have the next version complete this week so you won’t be using pre-release software.
There are quite a few under the hood changes. Authentic was the only theme we released that used that particular theme options page. This update will bring it in line with the options framework that we use in our themes. The downside of that is there isn’t an automatic way to transfer your settings.
That doesn’t mean you can move them over though. Here’s what I would do:
- Open up the current theme options page.
- In a new tab/browser window, install the new theme and go to the theme options page (Appearance > Theme Options).
- Copy the settings over from the old options page to the new one.
- Once you’re finished, save your new options.
It is essence a new theme from a settings point of view. But this will have it on the same framework as our current and future themes which will make changing themes and updating easier in the future.
If you have any questions, let me know,
Bill
