    Hi –

We would like to leverage this theme to create an educational sub site. We’d like to create and area that will grow as the organization grows. Adding Topics or Education Areas as we add or drop programs. Here’s a site that I’d like to emulate: http://alistapart.com/topics

Do you think we could create a main sub page in a grid format like the above site and then have those to blog style page with a blog feed in the center and an area for links on the right.

    Have a great weekend,
    Peter

I’m wondering if you’ve ever seen anyone use this with your themes: http://960.gs/

    Hi Peter,

For several years, I used the 960 grid system to set up my themes. Eventually I switched to 1140 as the foundation of the themes as screen sizes grew. If I remember correctly that’s where the three column home page and two column inside pages come from.

You can create a simple grid like that as a landing page. There are a good many column plugins out there that you could use to create three or four columns on a full width page. Then inside of them, you could use a plugin like Recent Posts Extended (https://wordpress.org/plugins/recent-posts-widget-extended/) or WP Recent Posts From Category (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-recent-posts-from-category/) to create a list of recent posts in that category.

That’s one way to approach it without coding. You could also create a page template in a child theme that sets all this up for you. You would need to set up some columns, and place a loop in each with WP_Query to pull posts from that category.

    Have a great weekend,
    Bill
